How the auto-assign works

The same list always gives the same chart. Households and couples written with a plus sign are never split. Groups are placed largest first, each at the table with the most free seats that fits the whole group, which keeps groups together and keeps table sizes even. A group bigger than a table is split across neighbouring tables. Anyone locked to a table stays put, and the head table, if you flag one, is table 1. Guests who cannot be seated because you are out of seats are listed so you can add a table.

How to make a wedding seating chart

Paste your guest list. One guest per line. Add a group after a comma, and + between people who sit together.
Set the tables. Choose how many tables and how many seats at each.
Press Seat my guests. Couples stay together, groups are kept at one table where they fit and tables are filled evenly.
Adjust by hand. Drag a name to another table, or tap a name and choose Move here. Lock anyone you do not want moved.
Print or download. The alphabetical escort list and table cards are free to print or save as a PDF.

Seating tips that usually help

Seat by group first. Friends from the same circle talk to each other; mix a few outgoing guests into quieter tables.
Keep couples and households together, including children with their parents.
Use the head table or a sweetheart table. Flag the head table guests and they fill table 1.
Put elderly guests away from the speakers and close to the restrooms and the exit.
Leave a seat or two free. Last-minute guests are common, and the tool shows how full each table is.
Print the escort list alphabetically so guests find their name quickly, and table cards for the tables themselves.

How many guests should sit at a table?

Typically 8 to 10 at a round table; 10 to 12 works at larger rounds if the tables are big enough for place settings and centerpieces. Set seats per table to whatever your venue uses.

Can I keep couples and groups together?

Yes. Write couples and households with a plus sign (Ana + Ben) and add a group after a comma (College). Pairs are never split by the auto-assign, and groups stay at one table when it has room.

How do I move a guest on my phone?

Tap the guest’s name, then tap Move here on the table you want. Dragging works on desktop. You can also lock a guest so auto-assign leaves them where they are.

Is the wedding seating chart maker free, and is my guest list private?

Free to use, print and save as a PDF. The guest list stays in your browser; we do not upload it. Clearing your browser’s site data removes it.
